Troubleshoot common issues that occur when connecting an Instagram channel to inzpire.me as a creator

Updated over a week ago

To connect your Instagram to inzpire.me, you're required to have a Facebook Page connected to your Instagram Professional account (Business or Creator). The permissions required to connect your Instagram channel come through Facebook, who own Instagram.

👋 Before we begin!

Open the following points in the checklist below by clicking on the title:

Do you have an Instagram Professional account?

There are 2 types of Instagram account; Personal, and Professional. A Professional account can be Business, or Creator.

Due to limitations from Instagram, only Professional accounts can connect to a Facebook Page, and access the Instagram features available on inzpire.me, such as calculating your performance metrics, and fetching your booking deliverables.

Learn how to convert your personal account to a professional account through Instagram's Help Centre article, How to set up a business account on Instagram.

Are you logged into the correct Facebook account?

Before you begin connecting your Instagram on inzpire.me, make sure you're logged into the correct Facebook account, which contains the Facebook page connected to your Instagram channel. This applies whether you're connecting via mobile, or computer.

Do you have a Facebook page?

Login to your Facebook account, and head to Pages: facebook.com/pages.

If you don't already have a Facebook Page, or would like to create a new one, click Create new Page.

You don't need to fully complete and publish your Facebook Page - you're only required to complete the first step, to create the initial page. And remember, only one Instagram channel can be connected per Facebook Page.

👋 Note: A Facebook Page isn't the same as your personal Facebook profile. Make sure you have a Facebook Page connected to your instagram.

Is your Facebook Page connected to your Instagram channel?

There are two ways to connect your Instagram to a Facebook Page; through the Instagram Mobile App, or directly through Facebook via desktop.

(1) Via Instagram Mobile App

By going this route, you can also check whether your Instagram account is already connected to a Facebook Page.

  1. Open the Instagram App on your mobile, and go to your Instagram profile.

  2. Tap on Edit Profile.

  3. Select Page to manage your connection or connect.

  4. Tap Continue, and follow the on-screen instructions. If your Instagram channel is already connected to a Facebook page, it will be displayed here.

👋 Note: If the Facebook Page you'd like to connect is not showing in the drop-down from your profile, it may be because you're not an admin of that Page. See how to check your permissions here.

(2) Via Facebook on Desktop

Follow the instructions on Facebook's Help Centre article, Connect or disconnect an Instagram account to your Facebook Page.

🤝 Connect your Instagram Channel

Now, we're ready to try and connect your Instagram Account

  1. Go to the Channels page, located in the menu on the left-hand side.

  2. Next to the Instagram icon, click Connect.

  6. ✋ PAUSE! Before you continue, click Edit Access to view the permissions.

  7. Can you see your correct Instagram channel listed?

    1. If yes, then proceed to step 8.

    2. If not, try the following sections of this article:

  8. Be sure you've granted all permissions, then click Continue.

  9. You’ll then be taken back to the My Channels page where your Instagram account will show as Connected.

🤔 Additional Troubleshooting

If you're still experiencing issues connecting your Instagram channel, or are unable to connect a Facebook Page to your Instagram channel, read on.

Do you have the correct Facebook permissions and access?

To successfully connect your Instagram channel to your Facebook Page, you need to have the right permissions for that Facebook Page. See Facebook's Help Centre article, See your Facebook Page role or access.

  1. Facebook Classic: You require Admin or Editor Page role

  2. Facebook New Pages Experience: You need full or partial control

If you don't have the correct role or access level, please contact the Facebook Page administrator, and request they edit your user settings. See Facebook's Help Centre article, Manage roles for your Facebook Page.

Is your Facebook Page an asset in Meta Business Manager?

If your Facebook Page is an asset in a Business Manager account, you'll also need management access to the Page in the Business Manager account. Contact the Business Manager Admin, and see Facebook's help article, How to add people to Meta Business Manager.

Do you need to confirm the connection between Instagram and Facebook?

In some cases, either Instagram or Facebook requires you to confirm the connection after the initial setup.

(1) Confirm Connection from Facebook

  1. Login in to your Facebook account.

  2. Access your Page, and view your Instagram Connection

    1. Classic View: Select Settings from the left menu > Select Instagram.

    2. New Page Experience: Open Settings > Select Linked Accounts

  3. You might see a prompt to Review Account Connection.

  4. Select Review Connection, and follow the prompts to complete the flow. You'll either be finished after this step, or you'll see another message that requires further steps. See section, Add users to your Business Manager.

(2) Confirm Connection from Instagram

  1. Open the Instagram App on your mobile, and go to your Instagram profile.

  2. Tap on Edit Profile.

  3. Under Public Business Information/Personal information settings , you might see a Confirm notification next to your connected Facebook Page.

  4. Tap Confirm, and follow the instructions to confirm your connection. You'll either be finished after this step, or you'll see another message that requires further steps. See section, Add users to your Business Manager.

Add users to your Meta Business Manager

After confirming the connection between your Instagram account and Facebook Page, you may see one of the following messages:

  1. “The Facebook Page you’ve tried to add is already owned by another business. You can still request access to this Page, but your request will need to be approved by the business that owns it.”

  2. “You must be an admin of the associated Page’s business in Business Manager to confirm the Instagram account.”

This means that the Facebook Page is an asset in a Meta Business Manager account, so you'll need full management access to it there as well. An Admin of the Meta Business Manager account needs to add you to the business, and assign the Page as one of your business assets. See Facebook's Help Centre article, How to add people to Meta Business Manager.
