Common questions about connecting your Instagram channel to your profile.

I don’t want to upgrade to an Instagram Professional account. What does this mean for me?

There are 2 types of Instagram account; Personal, and Professional. A Professional account can be a Business, or a Creator sub-type. By default, all Instagram accounts start as Personal. You can convert a Personal account to a Professional account at any time. See Instagram's Help Centre article, How to set up a business account on Instagram.

Due to limitations from Instagram, only Professional accounts can access the Instagram features available on, such as calculating your performance metrics, and fetching your booking deliverables.

If you don’t wish to upgrade your account, you’ll still be able to connect your other channels, like Youtube, and TikTok.

My Instagram Professional account failed to connect. Why?

The most common reasons your Instagram channel fails to connect are:

  1. Your Instagram account isn't connected to your Facebook Page

  2. You haven't made a Facebook Page

  3. You need to confirm the connection between your Instagram channel and Facebook Page

  4. You don't have the right Facebook permissions to authorise Instagram channel connections

  5. You didn't grant all permissions during the connection flow

What do the 5 Facebook permissions mean, and why do I need to grant them?

To successfully connect your Instagram account to your profile, you'll need to grant all 5 of the Facebook permissions. We've summarised what we use the permissions for below:

  1. Receive your email address: We use your email to identify who you are for support and email communications.

  2. Show a list of the Pages you manage: We use this to access the Page that's connected to your Instagram account.

  3. Access profile and posts from the Instagram account connected to your Page: We access your public profile to share your latest photos in your portfolio, upload your latest Deliverables, and share basic profile information with brands (ie: following, engagement rate, etc.).

  4. Access insights for the Instagram account connected to your Page and

  5. Read content posted on the Page: We use these insights to share your audience demographics and Instagram post/stories performance with brands.

Why do I have to reconnect my Instagram channel? use an access tokens to connect to your Instagram channels. When you connect a channel, this token is provided to us by Facebook (who owns Instagram), with your permission, for a set period of time.

When this token expires, or becomes invalid, you need to reconnect your Instagram channel.

Will switching to an Instagram Professional account affect my reach?

No. Instagram has proven that this is a myth as your reach is determined by other factors unrelated to a Professional account. To read more about this, head to Table of Contents 6 in this article.
